CAST DESCRIPTIONS

We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse production that reflects the rich tapestry of our community. We strongly encourage individuals of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and gender identities to audition for our roles. We want to emphasize that none of our roles are gender-specific, and we are excited to see fresh, innovative interpretations of these classic characters from performers across the spectrum of identity and experience.

Importantly, our production will be tailored to highlight the unique abilities and strengths of our core cast. For this reason, we have not specified vocal ranges for the roles. We're interested in hearing a wide variety of vocal types and will adapt the musical elements to best showcase the talents of our chosen performers.

Clara

Our adventurous and imaginative protagonist. The ideal candidate will be a strong dancer, with an excellent singing voice suitable for musical theatre and the acting ability to convey a wide range of emotions. This role requires someone who can portray both innocence and bravery as Clara embarks on her magical journey.

The Nutcracker

The brave hero. We're seeking a strong dancer who excels in multiple dance styles. The ideal candidate will have a good singing voice and the acting range to transition from stiff and toy-like movements to those of a dashing, heroic prince. This role demands excellent partnering ability for duet work with Clara.

Drosselmeyer

A mature performer with a commanding stage presence. This character serves as a catalyst for the story and requires someone with strong acting skills who can bring an air of mystery and wonder to the role. While not as dance-intensive as other roles, Drosselmeyer should move with grace and purpose. A rich, character-driven singing voice is essential for this role's musical numbers.

The Mouse King

A dynamic performer with a flair for the dramatic. This role requires a strong dancer who can move in a rodent-like manner while executing challenging choreography. A powerful singing voice is crucial, as the Mouse King will have villainous solos. The ideal candidate will bring charisma and a touch of humor to the role, making the Mouse King a formidable yet entertaining opponent.

Fritz

Clara's mischievous younger sibling. This pivotal role requires someone who can bring a playful spirit and a touch of impishness to the stage. Fritz is a key character in the story's opening scenes and plays an important part in setting up the magical adventure that follows. We're looking for someone who can portray childlike wonder and excitement, as well as the typical sibling rivalry with Clara.

5 core cast members

These core cast members will be the backbone of our production, pivoting between both ensemble roles and featured solo roles throughout the show. These cast members should have a strong dance foundation and ability to sing within a group.
